MIFA 2026–27 Pre-Budget Submission

Mental Illness Fellowship of Australia (MIFA) has lodged its 2026–27 Pre-Budget Submission with the Australian Government, outlining a practical plan to strengthen psychosocial supports for people who currently miss out on the help they need.

Around 500,000 Australians are living with psychosocial disability without access to consistent, community-based support. This submission focuses on targeted Commonwealth investment to close that gap — with solutions that can start now, not years away.

It proposes immediate expansion of proven programs, including CPSP and Clubhouse pilots, alongside the co-design and staged rollout of a sustainable national psychosocial support program through to 2030. It also includes modest funding to extend Out From the Mist — MIFA’s lived experience-led digital art and storytelling competition and exhibition — into regional communities, creating more opportunities for connection, creativity and visibility across Australia.

Grounded in frontline experience and sector-wide perspectives, the submission makes a clear social and economic case for reform that improves outcomes and reduces avoidable downstream costs.
