Through Our Eyes: Power, Rights and Priorities for Change

The Parliamentary Friends of Mental Health event returns to Parliament House this November, marking its first gathering of the current federal term and celebrating 21 years of national collaboration on mental health reform.

This year’s event brings together MPs, Senators, and lived-experience leaders to highlight a shared vision for the future — one where power, decision-making and system reform are co-designed with consumers, families, carers and kin.

As Parliament considers recommendations from the Productivity Commission’s Mental Health and Suicide Agreement Inquiry, this moment represents a once-in-a-generation opportunity to reshape Australia’s mental health system.

Speakers from the National Mental Health Consumer Alliance and Mental Health Carers Australia will outline priorities for change, calling for genuine co-design, co-governance, and stronger recognition of carers as partners in care.

The Parliamentary Friends of Mental Health group — co-convened by Tracey Roberts MP, Andrew Wallace MP, and Senator Jordon Steele-John — continues its long-standing commitment to keeping mental health front and centre in national policy discussions.
